LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA once again recognised as an important gateway for technology exchange

November 14, 2013, Mumbai: The second edition of LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA registered a record number of 3644 visitors, an increase of more than 35% over the previous edition. 118 companies participated at the trade fair.

"The market for laser used in the country is close to 20 million euros (estimated) of which laser for the automotive industry, which TRUMPF specializes in is close to 70%. Platforms like LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA provide the right platform for interaction with peers from the Industry, Government, Academia and Associations", said Mr. Dharmendra Nautiyal, National Sales Manager, TRUMPF INDIA.

"LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA has given us the opportunity to interact with industry peers and showcase our technologies in the Indian market. The show has quality visitors and provides a dialogue platform for the industry, the academia, associations etc. We had research scientists and institutions showing interest in our technologies that can possibly benefit their own projects", expressed Xiadong He, Technical Sales Manager, Scanlab.

This edition of the event witnessed an impressive line-up of the key players from the industry, like Ametek Precitec, Anatech Instruments, IDEX Optics & Photonics, IPG Photonics, Laser Science, Laserline, Laservall, nlight, Physik Instrumente, Sahajanand Laser Technology Ltd, Scanlab SPI Lasers, Toptica Photonics, TRUMPF India etc.

The show witnessed leaders in the sphere of Laser technologies from International country Pavilions like Germany, UK, Japan, China and European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) coming together on a common platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges for this fast growing sector.

"The need to improve the existing process systems and substitute old technology with more relevant one has been the driving force for lasers. As leaders in providing to the diamond and gems and jewellery industry for cutting and shaping, we realise the importance of precision with zero loss. Platforms such as LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA give us the opportunity to delve in to and know industry needs and also meet with potential customers. The trade fair will help the laser industry to fill a large gap in coming editions", said Mr. Arvind Patel, Managing Director – Sahajanand Laser Technology Ltd.

The concurrent extensive two-day conference program was a one-of-its-kind platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas. Focussing on a wide range of topics spanning from the highly technical ones like the Symposium on Laser Material Processing by The Optical Society (OSA) with internationally renowned scientists like Prof. Sir David N.Payne, Southampton University, UK and Prof. Eric Mazur, Harvard University, USA.

The Seminar on Laser Applications highlighted the applications of the laser in the automotive and diamond industry as well as Optical communications in Biophotonics. The sessions were presided over by Prof. Bishnu Pal (IIT Delhi), President, Optical Society of India (OSI).

Mr. Bhupinder Singh, Deputy CEO, Messe München International India, said, "LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2013 has been successful in bringing a new momentum to R&D, business and technology of laser technology and instruments in India. The trade fair for the consecutive year showcased top manufacturers and suppliers of laser technologies from all over the world. With a strong focus on innovation, this specialized event provided a platform for key professionals from around the world to link to the exciting Indian market."

The three day trade fair gained strong support not only from industry associations like the Indian Laser Association (ILA) and the Optical Society of India (OSI), but also from the Government of India, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DEITY) and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

Speaking on the Research & Development (R&D) in laser technology, Dr. Niloufer Shroff, Scientist, Head of Department – EMCD Division, DeitY, Government of India, said, "India has many pockets of excellence that have researched & developed many components using photonics that are strategic parts of optical devices like amplifiers, fibres, optical switching devices, 980 pump LASERS, Polymer & Organic materials, etc. While the government actively supports & encourages R&D at institutes like IIT Madras, IIT Mumbai, BITS Pilani, NITs etc, there is still a need for collaborative efforts on part of the industry, government, academia and associations to understand each other & boost the sector. I thank MMI India for bringing everyone on a common platform through LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA."
